Secure Flash Drive Usage and Data Protection

Audience: New employees or employees who have encountered malware attack attempts or lost data on a flash drive.

Responsibilities: Instructional Design, eLearning Development, Storyboarding, Visual Design, Animations

Tools Used: Articulate Storyline, Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator, Google Docs, Animaker, Canva, Amazon S3

The eLearning Designer's Academy started a monthly design challenge. They provided the information, assets, and resources to act as subject matter experts. I also used a friend who works creating cyber security training courses to use as a subject matter expert.

The final project changed a lot once I got feedback from the friend/SME. I did not end up revising my storyboard, just the prototype in Microsoft PowerPoint.

After my research and brainstorming process was complete, I started creating a written storyboard to plan out the text and assets that would be present on each slide.

After creating my written storyboard I started designing a prototype for each slide in the project. I tried to find different ways to make the project interactive. I decided to make the whole project using a storytelling method. I also added interactivity by incorporating some tab interactions. I wanted the learner to be a part of the story so I added a scenario that the learner will take part in.

I wanted to add an animated video to tell the learner about the scenario. I used Animaker to create the animated video.

I wanted to have a mixture of actions the learner will do. I included tabs for the learner to click through. I also included a video so it was more engaging and the learner did not need to read a lot of text. Lastly, I included a scenario-based assessment for the learner to select from. I wanted to make the learner a part of the training.

I have provided a video preview of the project, including the possible answer choices.

However, my design changed once I started creating each slide in Articulate Storyline because the original prototype was not very user-friendly.

I also scrapped the whole John and his mishaps with flash drives to one that focused more on the learner. I wanted them to be part of the project as if they were a new employee.
